BRD factors controllable by the farmer

A number of steps can be taken by producers to limit the impact of BRD within their cattle, including:

Vaccination

Timely vaccination against viral and bacterial BRD pathogens.

Concurrent disease

Treating or preventing other diseases e.g. parasitism.

Nutrition

Cattle gaining weight have a lower risk for BRD. It is important animals are fed a balanced diet including minerals and micronutrients. Water availability and quality are of crucial importance as well.

Detection

Early detection is essential for success. This can be achieved through frequent observation of all cattle.
